Anna Matin

P.E.A.C.E. Vice President General 2019/2020

At a very young age Anna decided she wouldn’t eat animals, but only after becoming a mother and then learning about the dairy industry, did she decide to go vegan. Anna has a background in social justice advocacy, as well as fitness and nutrition. The wellbeing of animals, humans, and the planet is very important to her. Outside of animal activism, Anna enjoys spending time in nature. The forest, mountains, and the sound of water soothe her soul. She also loves soccer, and all things food! Anna currently resides on the Sunshine Coast, raising two vegan children.

Zoe Peled

P.E.A.C.E. Communications Director 2020

Zoe Peled became vegetarian at a very young age, and has been vegan for more than 10 years. She received her BFA in Photography from Emily Carr University, with additional studies in Critical Theory, examining the positioning and terminology around animals. Her personal studies continue to examine the role of animal ethics and animal/human relationships; which has led her to both speaking engagements and internationally published work (Antennae Journal of Nature in Visual Culture, UK.) Currently she works with FFAC (Factory Farming Awareness Coalition), and facilitates events and community relations for numerous local vegan businesses. Zoe founded the Vancouver Vegan Resource Centre (VVRC) in Fall 2018, and previously held leadership roles with Liberation BC and Vancouver Chicken Save.

Hugo Slabbert

P.E.A.C.E. Co-Founder and Treasurer 2019/2020

“If there is a need, and I can help, then why don’t I?”  This is the thought that drove Hugo to co-found P.E.A.C.E. with Sarien.  He applies his background as a network engineer to support P.E.A.C.E.’s operations, including developing the Om Shanti sanctuary finder.  With over a decade of experience delivering technology projects with teams in the corporate world, Hugo is excited for the possibilities of how P.E.A.C.E. can multiply the efforts of volunteers and farm animal sanctuaries and support their vital work by acting as a hub of resources, coordination, and support. When not clicking away on a laptop, Hugo is equally comfortable swinging a hammer or loading up calves to drive them to their forever home.  He is an avid runner, cyclist, and kravist, and very much a homebody with his 2 kids and wife Sarien.

Sarien Slabbert

P.E.A.C.E. Co-Founder and President 2019/2020

Sarien has been vegan for the animals since 2006. Her background is in event planning, support for a BC sales team, trained Veterinary Assistant as well as dabbled in some amateur theatre before having children. She’s very much loves her spreadsheets and organizing! Always one to say “don’t give me the problem, give me the solution”, P.E.A.C.E. has became that solution she saw was needed to help in so many ways! From organizing rescues and support for sanctuaries, to as a mother with two children in the school system, alternatives with humane education.
